Hurricane Sandy and the St Barts 2012 CataCup

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012

To those of you who suffered the wrath of Super-Storm Sandy, I am thinking of all of you and hope that the damage it caused can be repaired and that life will get back to normal in the coming days. We had clients that were scheduled to go to St. Barts this week and had to cancel because their house was flooded and they could not leave the country at this time. Unfortunately they did not take out the optional insurance that we offer. If they had, their trip would have been covered and their expenses would have been reimbursed by the insurance company. However, we at St. Barth Properties went to bat for them to see if the owner of Villa Enfin would agree to allow them to reschedule their stay to another date. He generously agreed. I am sure these clients will look forward to being able to relax in St. Barts once they have recovered from the storm damage. I hope that you will want to do the same when the time comes to start thinking about a vacation.

I am heading to St. Barts on Wednesday to attend meetings, do hotel and villa inspections and to host our annual Beachside Bash November 10 as well as our Beaujolais Nouveau tasting on November 14, 2012. The CataCup race will begin November 14. St. Barth Properties Sotheby’s International Realty is again sponsoring a fantastic catamaran that is captained by multi-hull champion, John Casey. Dalton Tebo will once more be his very talented sailing partner.

John has contributed this guest blog:

“The St. Barth CataCup, the most exciting catamaran event of the year, is right around the corner and our St. Barth Properties Sotheby’s International Realty Sailing Team has been training all year for this very moment. The container, full of fast, sleek catamarans, left Miami on October 29th and is bound for St. Barth. The sailing race will start at Nikki Beach on November 14th. This event is chock-full of world champions and Olympic athletes ready to make their mark in sailing history. Look for the St. Barth Properties Sotheby’s International Realty catamaran on the beach and come say hello.

Our team won two years ago and finished a close second last year. We have a new boat and are excited to come back to the window pane clear water to race, but just as excited to visit with Peg and the whole team!

Of course, we will be at the Beaujolais Nouveau Party on November 14th at 7:01 PM. We hope to see you at this very tasty event!”

Note from Peg: John Casey and Sarah Newberry are going for the Gold at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. Read all about it here Why not support them in their endeavor and donate to the cause?

Berlin’s JAZZANOVA is the special invited guest this year. Their music is unique, funky and very entertaining. Last year, Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance had us all asking for more as we kept beat to their sound and the Adam Lasher Band was superb. Aberto Pra Balanço is a young artist from Sao Paulo who is certain to get us boogying. Emily Elbert, Eitch, Josh Logan, Ryan Fardy as well as Peter Barbee, a 24 year old Nashville based artist and the very talented DJ Alex Merrell will all be performing for us.

You will be able to enjoy the music at La Plage, The Christopher, Le Sereno, Bonito restaurant, Taïwana Hotel, L’Esprit, the restaurant of Jean-Claude Dufour, Hotel St Barth Isle de France, Hotel Le Village de St Jean, La Cantina, Voyageur Lounge, the Hotel Carl Gustaf, Eddy’s Restaurant and La Route des Boucaniers.
St. Barth RocksThierry de Badereau is the founder of the nonprofit organization St. Barth Rocks that organizes the St. Barth Summer Sessions. Celebrating its fourth anniversary, SBSS was also created by Thierry, the owner of Le Tom Beach Hotel and La Plage restaurant.

St. Barth Properties team and the owner of Villa Enfin are proud and pleased to have been able to donate a villa stay for some of the musicians. They are thrilled to be able to stay at this wonderful villa where they can enjoy a little R&R; they can take a dip in the pool and enjoy the panoramic views and be revitalized to entertain us each evening.

Contact or call 1-800-421-3396. Mention that you read about the event on Peg’s Blog. If you make a new reservation with dates that fall between August 4 and 15, 2012, we will make it tax free by personally paying the accommodation tax for you! That is a 5% savings.

St Barth is for Lovers

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Towards the end of our flight from Boston to St Maarten via JFK on JetBlue, I glanced over at the couple sitting across the aisle from Julie and me and saw that they were studying my 9 pages of Helpful Hints. Many clients refer to the HH as their “bible” because I have so much information in there so as to help them get the most out of their St Barth Vacation.

I introduced myself to them and we chatted a bit. Brian and Sara are from New York and were going to be staying at Villa Enfin which is a fabulous villa boasting views in two directions. Believe it or not, they had only booked their vacation with Kathy Schlitzer, one of our St Barth Specialists the day before!

They were so in love and so happy. Upon their return Kathy sent them a note asking them how they enjoyed their time in St Barth. Brian replied, “Back in NYC. We got engaged there. We had a blast!! Enfin was a homerun! Thanks Kathy.”

I had goose bumps and Peg being Peg, I was so curious that I was dying to know how and where Brian popped the question. Here is the story from Sara:

”Brian proposed on Wed. Aug 4th, the second night after we arrived. I was so surprised! I honestly had no clue. I thought that the day he would propose to me, he would act different and totally give it away. Anyway, we hung out at our Villa all day, listening to music, tanning, and swimming. Around 5, we went into Gustavia to shop (he bought me a very cute outfit at Poupette St Barth), and have dinner at Le Bistro on the water. After dinner, we went back to the Villa for a glass of wine out on our back porch (which had a gorgeous view). We talked for a while, and then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Of course I said yes. It was such a romantic, perfect moment. A moment that every person in love understands. We then switched from drinking wine to rum…ha ha. The whole rest of the week was wonderful…We were able to celebrate and enjoy our time alone before returning to the craziness in NYC with friends and family.”

Brian and Sara - What a beautiful ring!

Is that romantic or what? The wedding date is set for September 24, 2011.

Congratulations Brian and Sara!

(Speaking of rum, I will need to fill you in on that delicious tidbit but will save it for a future blog.)
