Where can you watch the Super Bowl in St Barts?

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

If you read my last blog, you know that Steve and I went back to the New England winter for 3 days so that we could watch the AFC Championship football game. It was a real nail-biter and, for us, the outcome was just what the doctor ordered (except that Steve and I both picked up that nasty cold that is going around). The final score was the New England Patriots 23 – Baltimore Ravens 20. The score was only determined during the last few seconds of the game. In the other league, The New York Giants won the NFC Championship game. The final match between these two winners takes place at Super Bowl XLVI February 5, 2012.

Game Over - Baby It's Cold Outside

Are you a Super Bowl fan? Are you going to Indianapolis to watch the Game? Are you having a Super Bowl party at home? Or are you one of the lucky ones who is vacationing here on St. Barts and enjoying the sunshine, beaches, restaurants and boutiques? You say “Yes, BUT I still want to be able to catch the Super Bowl game Sunday night.”

Have no fear Andy is here! Yes Andy is having his own tailgate party right here at the Hideaway Restaurant in St. Jean. His motto is, “Warm, Beer, Lousy Food and a View of the Car Park.” Of course that is tongue-in-cheek. The beer is ice cold; the food is great and, well, the car park view is kind of true but well-hidden so no one even notices. We all love Andy’s Hideaway. We dine there very often.

Mid January 2012 in St Barts

Friday, January 20th, 2012

The weather here in St. Barts is beautiful; it is about 80 degrees today and will be about 72 degrees tonight. The water temperature is in the high 70’s. We do get occasional showers and 5 minute downpours which helps keep the island so lush. The rainbows here are outstanding. Here is a picture of one that I took this morning.

Last week I went to check out the “new” Les Embruns, one of our most popular villas. In fact, the villa was so booked that this was my first chance to see it. Our photographer was taking new photos during a 4 day opening so it worked out perfectly. New decks have been added. One is open for sunning while the other one is covered and offers outdoor living. That deck is located across from the existing outdoor dining gazebo. Who wouldn’t like to spend the most time possible outside on gorgeous St Barth? During the day the sun is shining and the view is gorgeous. Return from dinner in the evening, relax in the new heated Jacuzzi and then enjoy a digestif while gazing up at the stars. This week the annual meeting of the St. Barth Dental Association is taking place. My son Dr. Mark Smyth arrived here on Sunday to attend the meeting. For those of you who don’t already know, my husband Steve is a dentist so he is taking the course with Mark as is an orthodontist friend of ours Dr. Patrick Assioun. The lecture takes place each morning at the Capitainerie in Gustavia. When they take their breaks, they can go outside on the balcony and look at the mega yachts in the harbor. Their afternoons are free to enjoy St. Barts. What a nice way to get CEU’s! If you are a dentist and interested in attending the SBDA meeting in 2013, let me know and I will send you information once the speaker is announced.

Coincidentally, my other son and VP, Tom Smyth arrived here on Tuesday. Tom is the liaison for people who wish to buy property in St Barts through our company St. Barth Properties Sotheby’s International Realty. He is here to inspect new listings and we also are meeting with the on-island staff to go over business matters.

Steve and I are leaving warm and sunny St. Barts tomorrow and flying back to snowy and cold Boston because I want to go the Patriots AFC Championship game on Sunday. It is supposed to snow so I hope our flights won’t be canceled. My daughter gathered up all of my winter gear so that I can be warm during the game. I hope I won’t be disappointed in the outcome. The last time I flew back for a playoff game, the end result was not good, so I hope I don’t jinx the game. We are flying back to St Barth on Tuesday. By the time I write my next blog we will al know which teams are going to the Super Bowl.

Portfolio and the Pats

I just finished editing our new Live Your Dream® brochure—what a project! After months of preparation, proofing and re-proofing, it is now “in the can” and at the printer in France.

I think you will love it. It has a new size and we revised the format. (I gave you a sneak preview in my most recent blogs when describing some villas that would be perfect places to stay while attending our November St. Barth Properties Party.)

The catalog will be on the island when you arrive and I am working on making an electronic brochure for our website. Stay tuned…

In the meantime, I am taking a mini-break. Some of you know that I am a HUGE New England Patriots fan and I have season tickets. Mind you, I am not a fair weather fan; I go to all of the home games even if it is raining, snowing or freezing cold. I went to London last year to see them play at Wembley and I even left sunny St Barth to go to freezing Gillette Stadium for the playoffs. Everyone said I was nuts and seeing as it was all over for the Pats in the first 17 seconds, they may have been right. Oh yes, I have attended all of the Super Bowls in which they played (I try to block out memories of Arizona). I wear my heart on my sleeve and although the experts may disagree, both Tom and Wes are on my Fantasy Football team. Therefore, I cannot plan any trips until the NFL has released the schedule.

Note the shirt: My staff gave it to me at our 2008 Christmas party because in 2009 we would be celebrating St Barth Properties’ 20th Anniversary. (Thus, the significance of the #89). Off went my Brady Shirt and on went my St. Barth shirt. I have been wearing this one ever since.

Well, it is the bye week, so off I go! Steve and I are in Turkey. (Steve was a history major in college but when he graduated, he found out there wasn’t much call for that major in the professional world, so he went back to school to do his pre-med and then went to dental school.) We will be visiting lots of historic places and are looking forward to it.

I will keep our St. Barth Properties November Party in my mind and I will still post some blogs while I am away.

Regarding the party if you wish to book a villa or hotel, please send an email to If you are a confirmed client, please email so that we may add you to our guest list. Please feel free to ask questions, too.
