Mid January 2012 in St Barts

Friday, January 20th, 2012

The weather here in St. Barts is beautiful; it is about 80 degrees today and will be about 72 degrees tonight. The water temperature is in the high 70’s. We do get occasional showers and 5 minute downpours which helps keep the island so lush. The rainbows here are outstanding. Here is a picture of one that I took this morning.

Last week I went to check out the “new” Les Embruns, one of our most popular villas. In fact, the villa was so booked that this was my first chance to see it. Our photographer was taking new photos during a 4 day opening so it worked out perfectly. New decks have been added. One is open for sunning while the other one is covered and offers outdoor living. That deck is located across from the existing outdoor dining gazebo. Who wouldn’t like to spend the most time possible outside on gorgeous St Barth? During the day the sun is shining and the view is gorgeous. Return from dinner in the evening, relax in the new heated Jacuzzi and then enjoy a digestif while gazing up at the stars. For more information on Villa Les Embruns, please contact reservations@stbarth.com.

This week the annual meeting of the St. Barth Dental Association is taking place. My son Dr. Mark Smyth arrived here on Sunday to attend the meeting. For those of you who don’t already know, my husband Steve is a dentist so he is taking the course with Mark as is an orthodontist friend of ours Dr. Patrick Assioun. The lecture takes place each morning at the Capitainerie in Gustavia. When they take their breaks, they can go outside on the balcony and look at the mega yachts in the harbor. Their afternoons are free to enjoy St. Barts. What a nice way to get CEU’s! If you are a dentist and interested in attending the SBDA meeting in 2013, let me know and I will send you information once the speaker is announced.

Coincidentally, my other son and VP, Tom Smyth arrived here on Tuesday. Tom is the liaison for people who wish to buy property in St Barts through our company St. Barth Properties Sotheby’s International Realty. He is here to inspect new listings and we also are meeting with the on-island staff to go over business matters.

Steve and I are leaving warm and sunny St. Barts tomorrow and flying back to snowy and cold Boston because I want to go the Patriots AFC Championship game on Sunday. It is supposed to snow so I hope our flights won’t be canceled. My daughter gathered up all of my winter gear so that I can be warm during the game. I hope I won’t be disappointed in the outcome. The last time I flew back for a playoff game, the end result was not good, so I hope I don’t jinx the game. We are flying back to St Barth on Tuesday. By the time I write my next blog we will al know which teams are going to the Super Bowl.

Sotheby’s International Realty Announces Top Network Sales for April and May 2011

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

St. Barth Properties Sotheby’s International Realty is in the Top Ten!

I blog about St Barth and all of the happenings as well as villa rentals and hotel accommodations but I haven’t really touched upon the real estate aspect. So many people fall in love with the island that purchasing property here comes naturally to some of them. In case you did not know we also sell real estate.

St. Barth Properties Sotheby’s International Realty was recognized by the Sotheby’s International Realty® brand for having one of the top sales in its network two months in a row! We received the honor for the month of April and today we were advised that we also made the Top Sales list for the month of May!

We earned the recognition for the sale of Villa La Calanque which is located in the gated community of Mont Jean and was included in the brand’s monthly Significant Sales brochure featuring 10 of the top sales in its network for April 2011. This 7 bedroom villa boasts direct access to the beach on Marigot Bay and is already undergoing significant renovations by its new owner.

May’s Significant Sale featured Villa Cocoland which is located the much sought-after area of Pointe Milou. This two bedroom villa is privately situated on the hillside and offers sensational views of the sea, the island and the sunset. Villa Cocoland is available for rent and is very popular with our clients.

Vice President Tom Smyth heads the sales referral network in our USA office and Directrice Pascale Minarro is in charge of the sales division in St. Barth. They make an excellent team. According to Tom, “The buyers are definitely back and our first six months of sales has been fantastic. St. Barth is such a wonderful place to purchase property. It is a very good investment because the island is so stable and of course so special”. He went on to say, “We honor the privacy of both our sellers and our buyers and keep that information confidential out of respect for them”.

We offer a private website for interested buyers so that they may monitor our inventory.

What is Oeil de Boeuf?

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

No sooner had Mark and Cynthia left when my other son and VP Tom Smyth arrived. Tom and I often meet with the staff down here so as to ensure that both offices are running in sync with each other and to touch base with the local management. At the same time, Tom had two buyers who had contacted him through our sales division, St. Barth Properties Sotheby’s International Realty and they were here to visit properties. Each buyer quickly found just what they were looking for and both villas went under contract yesterday. For further information on buying or selling property in St. Barth, contact tom.smyth@sothebysrealty.com.

Steve and I had an outstanding dinner at the Christopher’s Taïno restaurant. Our table for 2 overlooked the pool and the sea and the sound of the waves complemented the romantic ambience. We began with a complimentary apéritif which is kindly offered by the hotel to every client of St. Barth Properties dining in their restaurant. (All you have to do is to ask either of my offices to make your dinner reservations for you either before you go, by contacting concierge@stbarth.com or locally when you are here by calling 0590 29 75 05).

Everything on the menu as well as the Specials Board looked so good that it was hard to choose. We decided to share the tomato and mozzarella as an appetizer and it did not disappoint! The tomatoes were so fresh as was the mozzarella. I decided to try the Filet d’Agneau (Lamb Filet) along with the Christophine and string beans with peas for my two side dishes. Steve was in the mood for fish, so he selected the Œil de Boeuf (Red Snapper); his sides were potato purée with garlic as well as a dish of mushrooms. We were both thrilled when we tasted our fare. The lamb was so tender and perfectly cooked that it seemed to melt in my mouth; Steve’s fish was wonderfully prepared and very moist. We finished the meal by sharing their yummy Tarte au Chocolat avec Pistache (chocolate tart with pistachio ice cream).

I am always trying to improve my French and I could not figure out why Steve’s fish was called Œil de Boeuf. After all, boeuf means “beef” and œil means “eye”. Our waiter disappeared into the kitchen and reappeared with the answer! Œil de Boeuf means “bull’s eye” and this particular species of Red Snapper indeed has a huge eye. Imagine that…I learn something new every day.

Villa Marrakesh

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Julie and I visited many villas on August 04, 2010. We were dying to see the transformation of Villa Marrakesh and it was even better than we expected. The very colorful look had been replaced by a modern look with neutral décor.

We loved the comfy new chairs as well as the attractive dining table. The air conditioned king en suite bedrooms which are located on either side of the open living area and plunge pool were as nice as ever.

Villa Marrakesh after

Villa Marrakesh after

Villa Marrakesh’s kitchen was designed for the gourmet cook and the best part is that it too is air conditioned!

The view from here is outstanding and extends across Lorient all the way to St Jean, Anse des Cayes and St Maarten. Guests enjoy watching the sun as it sets behind the hills across the way. The added convenience of being able to take a two minute walk to the Hotel Christopher for lunch at the outdoor Mango restaurant or dinner at Taïno is a real plus for our guests who stay here. Why not try it?

If you are looking to purchase something in paradise, Villa Marrakesh is listed for sale with St. Barth Properties Sotheby’s International Realty at a very attractive price: 1,870,000 euros. It boasts an excellent rental history.
