Travelweek, Villa Grand Galet, Kim, Matt and Andrew April vacation; Villa La Colombe

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

The tradeshow in Sao Paulo was a great success. I met so many travel agents whose clients had fallen in love with St. Barts and wanted to come back with the family and rent a villa. Pascale Minarro, the Directrice at my St. Barth office, was with me and we had 20 minute appointments with very qualified agents from Latin America.

It was kind of grueling, taking red-eyes both ways and full days and evenings so I had little rest but I was really looking forward to meeting my daughter Kim and grandson Matt along with his friend Andrew and my husband Steve (he took 2 huge suitcases home to our house in Cape Cod while i was in Brazil). We met in Miami and continued on to St. Barts.

I had booked Villa Grand Galet for the 5 of us and it was the perfect choice. We were close to everything and the view from there… OMG – look straight ahead and see Saba, Statia and St. Kitts; look down and see Shell Beach; look right and see Gustavia harbor with St. Maarten in the distance. Did I mention the spectacular sunsets? …Every single night- always unique depending on the horizon. There are 2 king en suite bedrooms on the pool level; the boys slept in the twin bedroom on the lower level so this villa is great for couples as well as families. If you would like to stay at Villa Grand Galet just contact reservations@stbarth.com.

We went to the beaches, did a half day snorkeling trip with Bosco Yacht that included Saline, Colombier and La Forchue island, dined at the restaurants, went to our Tuesday night cocktail party at Bonito and had a night out at Le Ti St. Barth for the wildest evening ever! I kid you not – in all the times I have been there I have never seen so many people get into the scene. Everyone was dancing on the floor and on the tables. One enthusiastic partier jumped up on our table which was still covered with lots of glasses. We had all we could do to keep them from breaking.

I tried to cut back on work so that I could spend time with them but I did inspect a great 3 bedroom villa in Colombier and we have added it to our portfolio. For those of you who know St. Bart it is located just before the bakery La Petit Colombe. The aroma of the freshly baked baguettes wafts towards the villa which I have aptly named Villa La Colombe and when you walk there and then bring the pastries back for petit déjeuner, they will still be warm. Book this one if you want a gorgeous view, contemporary decor and a great pool that even features a counter-current machine so they you can work off those calories that came with the chocolate croissants. reservations@stbarth.com

Les Voiles de St. Barth 2012; Full Moon party at La Plage restaurant at Le Tom Beach Hotel

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

No sooner did the St. Barth Bucket Regatta complete its race week when Les Voiles de St Barth’s third annual regatta began theirs. With 65 sail boats vying for the title the island was brimming with crew, owners and spectators and happily our villas and hotels were full. While the Bucket featured yachts over 100 ft, Les Voiles de St. Barth length requirement starts at 21 feet. There were 6 classes: Maxi – boats that are over 68 feet in length; Classics – over 35 years old; Spinnaker 1 & 2 – single-hull specialized racing boats, non Spinnaker – boats racing without a spinnaker; Multi-hulls, – racing catamarans and trimarans from 30 to 60 feet in length. This year there was a new class – IRC 52.

I am lucky because I could see these sailboats as they race in an out of Lorient Bay from my villa and the sight was spectacular. The hues of the crystal clear water enhanced the contrast between the colorful spinnakers billowing in the wind and the aquamarine sea. “The Village” for Les Voiles was located on the quai and it was very classy with chairs, tables, a bar and an elevated boutique of sorts that was selling all kinds of Gaastra clothing embroidered with the 2012 logos. (To give you an idea, a polo shirt was selling for 90 euros!) There was live entertainment on the stage each evening; Saturday night was the awards ceremony followed by a big party.

As I mentioned before the Gérant (General Manager) of my island office, Benoit Meesemaecker is an outstanding sailor. He crewed on a boat that placed in the Bucket and he was also a member of the crew on “Coors Light”, a Spinnaker 1 class sailboat. I am happy to report that Coors Light won first prize in their division. Congratulations! The funny part of this story is that they also won a free stay in one of our competitor’s villas!! Way to go Benoit!

Friday evening, Steve and I went to La Plage restaurant at Le Tom Beach hotel for dinner and their full moon party. The Dress Code was “All White” and the place was packed. We were treated to some entertainment on the beach including a guy who danced with fiery batons and a woman performing pole dancing. You really should include La Plage in your “must do” list while you are here. Our concierges can make the dinner reservation for you. – Lunch is a great “to be seen” scene too.
