Over the weekend my repeat clients who were due to arrive at beautiful Villa Plaisance on Thursday, saw the forecast for Philadelphia and decided to get out now! They were able to change their flights, get rooms for the night in St. Maarten and we were able to add an extra day to their villa stay. It is as easy as that. Now they can enjoy a longer time in St. Barth. (They told that they already know that next year they will book even more nights.)

Why not consider jumping on a plane in the next few days so that you can take advantage of a very last minute special that is being offered by the wonderful luxurious Hotel Guanahani & Spa. Relax with a complimentary massage; enjoy the beach, their wonderful restaurants (one evening on them!) by taking advantage of this special.

Baby, it’s cold outside (and snowy)? Cheri, it’s warm in St. Barth (and sunny)

Have you had enough of winter? Why not do what my son, Mark Smyth and his wife Cynthia did last week? They hired a babysitter and escaped from the frigid cold of Massachusetts.

As many of you already know I am married to a dentist. My son, Mark is also a dentist and bought my husband’s dental practice a few years ago. The St. Barth Dental Association held their annual meeting at the Capitainerie January 17-21, 2011, so Steve and Mark took the course and learned a lot. (I will have more details on the 2012 meeting in a future blog for any of you dentists who may be interested.) The course finished at 11:30 am each day, so there was plenty of time left to play and Thursday evening the SBDA hosted a cocktail party followed by dinner and a fashion show at La Plage.

Mark and Cynthia arrived via Tradewind Aviation from San Juan. The first order of business was to clear immigration by showing their passports to a friendly gendarme. Then on to the luggage carousel to retrieve their bags and head out the door, turn right and walk to the car rental area and check in at our booth.

It was great to have them here. They haven’t been to St Barth since their last child was born in 1990, so they really noticed the changes and loved the fact that the island remains as charming as ever.

February is fast approaching and the groundhog will soon be reminding you that there are still 6 more weeks of winter ahead of you. Do you need an incentive to come down here with your honey?

Surprise your significant other for Valentine’s Day! Book Villa Bamboo for any stay in February and a Suzuki Jimny car rental will be included in the rate! That is a savings of 450 euros per week! Just think of how many romantic dinners you can have with that extra 450 euros in your pocket. Villa Bamboo is lovely and private. Guests love to listen to the sounds of the sea as they sit on the pool deck and marvel at view and the ever-changing colors of the crystal clear water on Grand Cul de Sac Bay. For more information, please call 1-800-421-3396 or email info@stbarth.com.

How do they make such yummy pizzas in St. Barth? And what’s new with Villa Diaco?

Bonjour from sunny St. Barth!

I’m back for my meeting in Las Vegas; I’ve stashed my coat and business attire into the closet and am so happy to feel the warm breezes again. St Barth is beckoning you…

Saturday evening we decided to head to Gustavia and dine at L’Entracte, a wonderful casual restaurant on the harbor. I drive by it every day on my way to my office and I always see Jean Pierre preparing the dough for his famous pizza. He has it down to a science and the end result it was worth the wait! Steve ordered the “Pizza L’Entracte” and loved it.

We shared the nems for an appetizer and I had the Cordon Bleu; they were both delicious.

L’Entracte is open every day for lunch and dinner except Sunday and reservations are recommended. Our concierges Julia (USA) or Magda (St. Barth) will be happy to make them for you.

Yesterday, I visited Villa Diaco with some clients who wanted to see some villas for their return visit to St. Barth next year. (Trust me; going back to St. Barth over and over again is the norm. Come here once and you are hooked!) Diaco is perched on the tip-top of Vitet. We walked in and the view captivated us. Look to the left and see all the way over to yachts moored outside of the harbor or to the right and see the waves of Petit Cul de Sac as well as the kite surfers at Grand Cul de Sac. Look straight ahead and enjoy the view of St. Maarten and Anguilla in the distance. Oh, and the sunsets! They are sensational.

Villa Diaco was recently refreshed with new paint, new living room furniture and extras like an iPod dock. It features a king bedroom and is truly a very romantic hideaway. For more information, please call -1800-421-3396 or email info@stbarth.com.

How much can you stuff into a one quart bag when passing through airport security?

Bonjour from sunny (but chilly) Las Vegas!

Yes I had to leave beautiful St. Barth in order to attend the Condé Nast Traveler Las Vegas Summit at the brand new Cosmopolitan Hotel (fabulous) where I received my Villa Rental Specialist Award (I am thrilled to be designated as “the best for St. Barth”). The magazine began bestowing the award in 2006 and I have been very fortunate to have won this prestigious designation each year since its inception.

The “Las Vegas Summit” was very informative and very productive. Travel and villa Specialists from all over the world attended and we learned a lot from each other and from the editors of Condé Nast Traveler magazine. The good news is that people are traveling again. We have really noticed the trend in St. Barth. Our phones are ringing a lot and I am sure the cold, snowy weather contributes to people’s desire to get away to our beautiful, warm and sunny island.

The Cosmopolitan only opened 3 weeks ago and it is very classy. Each room has a private balcony – a first for Las Vegas and one gets the sense of being in an apartment in a large city. The dining venues are wonderful and plentiful. Every chef that was brought to the hotel came from outside of Las Vegas. The hotel offers free Internet/Wifi access—how refreshing!

By the way, I also won an unofficial award from a TSA agent: “Most liquids ever seen stuffed into a 1 quart bag”… Hey, what’s a woman to do when she has to travel with only a carry-on?

The morning of my departure I visited a gorgeous new three bedroom villa that is located in Grand Fond. The unique swimming pool at villa La Roche dans l’eau is the focal point. It simulates a beach-like feel as you wade into the water. There is a rock in the pool too! Have a look. Guests will love the peacefulness of the area and it is a great spot to jog.

I will be back in St. Barth later today. I already have appointments to inspect a renovated villa and a brand new villa on Saturday. Stay tuned….

New Year’s week on St Barth

Happy New Year from sunny St. Barth!

The island was hopping during New Year’s week; the yachts had to leave the harbor again because of another houle but were mercifully allowed back to the dock on December 31…just in time for the festivities. The New Year’s Eve Regatta went on as planned and the sailboats had plenty of wind for the race.

I have been encouraged to take a break from work once in a while and act like a vacationer – try to do things that our clients do while they are on vacation in St. Barth. One of the must-dos is to experience Nikki Beach at lunchtime (late lunchtime that is). We had a 2:00 pm reservation which is the time their daily fashion show begins. We sat back to enjoy “the scene”. The food was absolutely delicious which was a real plus. The service was excellent and everyone seemed to be having a great time.

We celebrated New Year’s Eve by dining at the Wall House – an excellent five course presentation – preceded by complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres harbor side. We finished dessert just in time to catch the midnight fireworks and kiss everyone on both cheeks while saying, “Bonne Année”.

Are you aware that St. Barth Properties not only offers private villas, we also represent 18 wonderful St. Barth hotels? Our collection, The Hotels of St. Barth has its own website. Have a look. Our Reservation Specialists are ready to assist you with your selection.

I was one of the lucky few to be able to visit the two brand new three bedroom villas at the Hotel St. Barth Isle de France. To say the least, they are absolutely wonderful! The 4200+ square foot villas exude a casual elegance styled by Penny Morrison of Morrison Interiors in London. Each king bedroom has an en suite bath with double vanities, a bathtub, a separate shower and a dressing area. The villas feature a media room, a fitness room, a kitchen, a living room as well as both indoor and outdoor dining areas. Both villas offer a private infinity plunge pool on the terrace and gorgeous views over Flamands Beach. Guests have private access to the beach.
