Villa Mer Soleil – on YouTube

Monday, October 25th, 2010

We are in the process of adding a new feature to our website—A YouTube video of many of our villas.  Today’s featured villa is the gorgeous Villa Mer Soleil which is available for rent exclusively through St. Barth Properties and is one of the villas that is included in our elite Grand Cru Collection (Stay tuned for that announcement in one of my next blogs).

Here it is!  Please let me know what you think of this feature and if you have any special requests as to other villas you might want to see with a video.

Here is the description which is also on our website:

The word “breathtaking” best describes the uber-luxurious Villa Mer Soleil. Everywhere you look there is an island to behold: Saba, St Kitts, Nevis, St. Maarten – all floating on those brilliantly blue waters. And oh, the sunsets! Mer Soleil has 3 bedrooms all with baths en suite; two are on the main level (one king and one queen) and the third (king) is on the villa’s lower level. The spacious open floor plan encompasses living and dining areas, a guest bath and a sleek, eco-savvy kitchen with Valcucine cabinetry and Viking appliances. There is every bell and whistle, including two dishwashers. The focal point is a huge L-shaped bar which makes for a great gathering spot for all the villa guests – and then some. There is a big gorgeous pool and an even bigger deck with loads of outdoor living – and lounging – space. A charming poolside gazebo is perfect for alfresco lunches and dinners. This is one of Gouverneur’s chicest properties.

Although it is not mentioned in the video, a fourth bedroom studio with living area, queen bed, bath and kitchenette is available for a member of the guests’ staff or a teen.

St. Barth Properties Annual Party – It’s in the Details

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

I just got back from Turkey – what a wonderful trip! There was so much to see. To be able to witness so much of history was incredible. One of the highlights of our trip was a visit to Kaymakli Underground City in Cappadocia: Beginning in the second century AD, as successive armies swept across Asia Minor, the residents of Cappadocia created uniquely defensible communities by digging approximately eight stories down into the volcanic tufa stone. Steve and I crawled through these caves and were dazzled by how well they built them.

Beaujolais Nouveau 2010

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

If you are unable to attend our St. Barth Properties November Party, never fear, there is another celebration the following week! Celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau with St. Barth Properties November 17, 2010. It is one of the most lively rituals in the wine-lovers industry and oh so French!

Guests staying at any of St. Barth Properties’ villas or hotels will be able to participate in the St. Barth Beaujolais Nouveau celebration. A race to see who will be the first to serve Beaujolais Nouveau, a hugely popular wine, has become not only a global event but also a tradition on the island of St. Barth. The first taste of the Beaujolais harvest can only be served at one minute past midnight on the third Thursday in November. However, midnight in France is only 7 p.m. in St. Barth! The celebration begins in St. Barth precisely at 7:01 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. By the time it’s over, more than 65 million bottles (worldwide) of the Beaujolais Nouveau will have been consumed.

Beaujolais Nouveau began as a local phenomenon in the bars, cafés and bistros of Beaujolais and Lyons. In 1938, regulations and restrictions were put in place to restrict where, when and how Beaujolais Nouveau was to be consumed. Beaujolais Nouveau is always released the third Thursday of November, regardless of the start of the harvest. Regulatory authorities permit the wine to be shipped to international destinations well in advance of the release date, so it will be in place and ready to sell on Nouveau Day.

All the grapes in the Beaujolais region must be picked by hand. These are the only vineyards, along with Champagne, where hand harvesting is mandatory.

Beaujolais grapes

Beaujolais grapes

Beaujolais Nouveau is made of grapes that were still on the vine only three months earlier (thus the “nouveau” which means new). Because it is harvested so soon, this wine is not one to keep for a long time; it must be consumed within a few months. When serving the wine, it should be slightly chilled (about 55 degrees), in order to enhance the taste and fruitiness.

If you are going to be in St. Barth during the week of Beaujolais Nouveau (November 17, 2010, the St. Barth Properties on-island staff will include, in your Welcome Packet, an invitation to attend a special Beaujolais Nouveau celebration on Wednesday evening. Everyone enjoys this fun event! What better place to experience this special occasion than on St. Barth.

A votre santé!

Portfolio and the Pats

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

I just finished editing our new Live Your Dream® brochure—what a project! After months of preparation, proofing and re-proofing, it is now “in the can” and at the printer in France.

Live Your Dream Portfolio in production

Live Your Dream Portfolio in production

I think you will love it. It has a new size and we revised the format. (I gave you a sneak preview in my most recent blogs when describing some villas that would be perfect places to stay while attending our November St. Barth Properties Party.)

More Portfolios in production

The catalog will be on the island when you arrive and I am working on making an electronic brochure for our website. Stay tuned…

In the meantime, I am taking a mini-break. Some of you know that I am a HUGE New England Patriots fan and I have season tickets. Mind you, I am not a fair weather fan; I go to all of the home games even if it is raining, snowing or freezing cold. I went to London last year to see them play at Wembley and I even left sunny St Barth to go to freezing Gillette Stadium for the playoffs. Everyone said I was nuts and seeing as it was all over for the Pats in the first 17 seconds, they may have been right. Oh yes, I have attended all of the Super Bowls in which they played (I try to block out memories of Arizona). I wear my heart on my sleeve and although the experts may disagree, both Tom and Wes are on my Fantasy Football team. Therefore, I cannot plan any trips until the NFL has released the schedule.

Note the shirt: My staff gave it to me at our 2008 Christmas party because in 2009 we would be celebrating St Barth Properties’ 20th Anniversary. (Thus, the significance of the #89). Off went my Brady Shirt and on went my St. Barth shirt. I have been wearing this one ever since.

Well, it is the bye week, so off I go! Steve and I are in Turkey. (Steve was a history major in college but when he graduated, he found out there wasn’t much call for that major in the professional world, so he went back to school to do his pre-med and then went to dental school.) We will be visiting lots of historic places and are looking forward to it.

I will keep our St. Barth Properties November Party in my mind and I will still post some blogs while I am away.

Regarding the party if you wish to book a villa or hotel, please send an email to info@stbarth.com. If you are a confirmed client, please email concierge@stbarth.com so that we may add you to our guest list. Please feel free to ask questions, too.

November Party 2010 – more villa ideas

Monday, October 4th, 2010

Still haven’t booked your villa for the first weekend in November? Would you like to be located near St Jean and Gustavia?

These two villas are only about a 5 minute drive to either spot:

Villa Piment in Anse Des Cayes

Lucky You!! The couple who stayed in Villa Piment last year is very disappointed that they are not able attend our party due to a previous obligation. They tried and tried to wriggle out of it -but to no avail. This is your chance…

Dream About: Waking up in a king-size 4-poster bed with a vista of the sea framed by French doors.

It’s in the Details: Views abound here, from the breakfast bar in the kitchen and the deck that surrounds the pool and Jacuzzi. The TV room is so comfy.

SBP Loves: The romantic covered dining terrace

Dream About: Having the option each morning of a swim in your pool, or walking down a path to a little coral beach.

It’s in the Details: Water views and the sound of the surf add to the ambience of a comfortable spacious interior. There is a well-equipped kitchen and a delightfully breezy dining terrace.

November Party – more villa suggestions

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Per usual, St Barth takes a snooze in September and early October when the French take their mandated 5 week vacations. That means many hotels, restaurants and boutiques are closed.

However there is still a lot to do and you can still dine at a different restaurant every night as St Barth is starting to wake up and readying itself for “The Season”. Our office on the island is open and ready to welcome you! The staff can make your dinner reservations, book an in-villa massage and much more.

Many people enjoy this time of year as it is so peaceful. Relaxing at your villa reading a good book then taking a dip in your own private swimming pool might be just what the doctor ordered. Explore the beaches and you may find one or two practically deserted- fun! It’s time for some well-deserved R & R.

As promised, I am recommending two more villas that would be great for your early November stay.

For just the two of you:

Villa Bamboo in Grand Cul de Sac:

Dream About: A romantic little retreat complete with a 4-poster bed and a panoramic view of Grand Cul de Sac and the Drive Dine Relax Package that is included!

It’s in the Details: A casual, comfy living room opens onto a tiered pool deck and a covered terrace. The open-air kitchenette with its bar does double duty at cocktail time.

SBP Loves: The shower – open the door and jump into the pool!

Villa Bamboo Terrace

Two couples?

Villa Birdy in Pointe Milou

Dream About: Slipping into your plunge pool just steps from your air-conditioned living room – and drinking in a panoramic view

It’s in the Details: Contemporary design and minimalist décor are softened by a soothing color scheme of grays and whites.

SBP Loves: The mirrors in the living room that capture the magnificent views of the sea.
